God is with you

Jos 1:9 “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not tremble or be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”

My friend Linda shared with me her daughters favorite verse which is above. I love to hear Christians favorite verse as I get to learn so much about them and God and things I may need to do differently. I am leary when peoples favorite verse is a promise to a specific people at a specific time. Very easily, we can attach ourself to a verse only to realize it is a promise to someone else.

For instance Joshua 1:3, talks about God giving every piece of land he walks on, to Joshua and the people of Israel as they continue into the promised land. It reads Jos 1:3 “Every place on which the sole of your foot treads, I have given it to you, just as I spoke to Moses. I have heard churches and tv evangelist misuse this verse which is clearly not for today when wanting to raise money for land. We need to be like the Berians and read verses in context. Looking to the verses before and after a verse to be sure of what God is saying.
That being said verse 9 is promise not only to Joshua, but also a timely truth to all believers. It is an assurance that God is with His people including Christians today. How do I know that? Well, scripture backs up scripture…

teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
(Matthew 28:20 NASB)

Here Jesus says He is with us until the end of the age. Believers can be content in every situation because of this promise. It is like saying, “there is absolutely no way whatsoever that I will ever, ever leave you.”

Here is one more verse to encourage us.
Make sure that your character is free from the love of money, being content with what you have; for He Himself has said, “I WILL NEVER DESERT YOU, NOR WILL I EVER FORSAKE YOU,” so that we confidently say, “THE LORD IS MY HELPER, I WILL NOT BE AFRAID. WHAT WILL MAN DO TO ME?”
(Hebrews 13:5-6 NASB)

Here again we are told that God will not forsake the believer, He is always there for us in every situation. Isn’t that comforting?Another wonderful thing about God never leaving us is we “will not be afraid”, be bold, not in ourselves but in God who never leaves a Redeemed heart. What a mighty God we serve.
